Role Overview

The Senior DNS Engineer leads the design, implementation, and operation of enterprise-scale DNS infrastructure supporting mission-critical systems across multiple client environments.

This role requires deep expertise in DNS architecture, performance, resiliency, and security. You will own complex DNS platforms, drive automation and standardization, and act as a senior technical authority during incidents and architectural decisions. The position also includes mentoring junior engineers and contributing to operational excellence across teams.

Key Responsibilities

Design and operate enterprise-scale DNS architectures for high-availability and low-latency environments
Lead DNS capacity planning, performance optimization, and resiliency design
Implement and maintain Anycast-based DNS routing strategies
Design and manage DNSSEC for secure name resolution
Automate DNS provisioning, updates, and validation using APIs and infrastructure-as-code approaches
Perform advanced DNS troubleshooting and root cause analysis
Act as a senior escalation point during incidents and outages
Integrate DNS systems with observability and monitoring platforms
Define and improve DNS operational standards, runbooks, and documentation
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on DNS fundamentals and best practices

Requirements

4+ years of hands-on experience working with DNS in large-scale environments
Deep expertise in DNS protocols, architecture, and operational behavior
Strong experience with BIND and/or Infoblox
Experience designing and operating Anycast DNS infrastructures
Practical experience implementing and managing DNSSEC
Proven ability to troubleshoot complex DNS issues under production pressure
Experience automating DNS operations using APIs or scripting
Solid understanding of Linux systems and networking fundamentals
Experience supporting mission-critical, highly available systems
