Role overview
This role owns payroll accuracy and payroll-related finance operations across employees and contractors. You will run payroll end to end, keep records clean and reconciled, and build visibility into payroll and subscription spend so leadership can make better decisions. The role exists to bring more structure, control, and accuracy to a growing business.
🔧 What You’ll Be Doing:
- Run end-to-end payroll for employees and contractors on a bi-weekly schedule, making sure every cycle is accurate and on time
- Reconcile payroll accounts, prepare journal entries, and keep payroll records clean and ready for monthly close
- Audit payroll data, investigate discrepancies, and resolve issues across PTO, benefits deductions, bonuses, and commissions
- Build and maintain payroll reports and KPI dashboards that give leadership clear visibility into payroll costs, trends, and risks
- Partner with HR and business teams on onboarding and offboarding payroll setup, contract updates, and employee data changes
- Own the company’s software subscription tracker, monitor renewals and usage, and help reduce unnecessary SaaS spend
- Support monthly P&L preparation, reconciliation, and basic variance analysis, while handling contracts, NDAs, and related documents with discretion
✅ What Makes You a Strong Fit:
- 3-5 years of hands-on payroll accounting experience, including payroll processing for employees and contractors
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks, Wise, Mercury, and Stripe in day-to-day finance operations
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and building practical trackers or reports
- Experience reconciling payroll accounts, preparing journal entries, and supporting monthly close or P&L reporting
- Solid understanding of payroll components such as PTO, benefits deductions, bonuses, commissions, and other variable payments
- High attention to detail, strong ownership, and the ability to handle confidential financial and legal information carefully
- Fluent English - used daily in written communication, reporting, and explaining financial data to non-finance stakeholders
➕ Bonus if you have:
- Experience working in a startup or high-growth environment
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Zapier or Make
- Experience with software subscription tracking or vendor management
- Exposure to drafting, reviewing, or coordinating contracts, NDAs, and similar business documents
