How to write and publish an article

On DevKG, you can share experience, write a guide or explain an interesting problem. Publishing articles is free.

Start with one idea: what will readers learn or be able to do afterwards? “How to prepare for your first interview” is clearer than “My thoughts about work”.

1. Open the editor

Sign in, open My articles and select Write. All fields are on one page.

2. Write the title and text

  • Title: 3–255 characters. Name the subject and what readers will gain.
  • Content: at least 100 characters to publish. The counter below the field helps you check the length. The maximum is 50,000 characters.

The minimum length is a form requirement, not a complete article. A useful structure is to explain the problem, describe the steps or your experience, then give the result and lessons learned. Break long text into headings and short paragraphs.

Use the toolbar for headings, lists, links and images. Select an image with the image button, drag it into the text or paste it using Ctrl+V or ⌘V. Each file can be up to 5 MB. Wait for uploads to finish before saving.

3. Add a cover if you want one

The cover is optional. It is the image for the article card, separate from images inside the text.

Select the cover field or drag in a PNG, JPG or WebP up to 5 MB. It must be at least 1600 × 900 pixels, with 16:9 proportions. If the form offers cropping, choose the area you want to keep.

4. Check the topic

The site may suggest a topic from your title and text. Automatic selection is a suggestion: check that it fits.

Choose another topic, leave the article without one or propose your own through New topic…. A new topic may need review, so do not assume it immediately appears in the public list. See Article topics.

5. Save a draft or submit the article

Save draft keeps the work in My articles. Readers cannot see it.

Publish submits the completed article. If the site asks you to verify your email, follow the dialog's instructions.

The article may appear immediately or go for review, depending on the site's rules and review result. There is no promised review deadline here. Check its status in My articles and read Moderation for the rules.

These are examples of statuses. Not every article passes through all of them.

Not published
You saved the article but have not sent it yet. Only you see it.
Awaiting company approval
The article goes out on behalf of a company. Waiting for the company to approve it.
Under review
A moderator is reading the article. Usually within one working day.
Scheduled
The article is approved and waits for the time you chose. You can move the time or publish it now.
Published
The article is on the site; people read and comment on it.

A moderator sent the article back. Click the status to see what to fix.
Archived

Article statuses in "My articles"

If the status is Rejected, select it, read the reason, make corrections and submit again. Resubmitting without addressing the reason will not solve the problem.

Edit a published article

  1. In My articles, open the article menu → Edit.
  2. Make changes and select Save.
  3. Check the article's status in the list.

Changing the title, text, cover or company restarts the publication process. If approval or review is needed, the article temporarily stops appearing to readers. It may also pass the check immediately.

Changing only the topic does not send the published article back for review. You still need to select Save; the topic itself may have its own review.

Archive, copy and delete

Available actions depend on the current status. Look beside the article in My articles.

ActionResult

Views, likes and comments appear in the list. See Views and likes to understand the counters.

If saving or publishing fails

Check the red field messages, title and text length, and image size. Wait for image uploads to finish. If the error continues, contact support with the article title and error text. Keep a separate copy of your text before retrying.
