How to register for an event and cancel your place

Open Events on DevKG and choose a meetup, lecture or conference. Read its date, time, location, price and participation conditions.

The organiser chooses how people sign up: on the site, through another service or not at all. Here is how to tell which option your event uses.

1. Find the registration button

Look in the block with the event's key information. The label tells you what to do next.

These are example buttons, not working controls. Register on the actual event page.

  • A plain sign-up. One press and you are on the guest list.

  • You are not signed in yet. The button opens sign-in and brings you back to the event.

  • Sign-up happens on the organiser's site. It opens in a new tab.

  • The event came from another site. You sign up where it was published.

  • The organiser stopped sign-up. No new guests are taken.

  • You are signed up. Changed your mind? Press "Cancel registration".

Six versions of the button: Register, Sign in to register, Go to registration, Register on another site, Registration closed, and You are going with a cancel link.

If there is no button, read the conditions. The event may need no registration, may have ended or may not offer on-site registration. A missing button does not by itself mean you can simply turn up. If unclear, use the organiser's contacts on the page.

2. Sign in and verify your email if asked

On-site registration requires an account with a verified email address. If you are signed out, use the sign-in button: How to sign in. Back on the event page, select Register.

If your email is missing or unverified, a dialog opens. Add an address if needed and verify it using the code from the email. After successful verification, the site retries registration.

An external form follows that service's rules. You do not need to sign in to DevKG just to follow its link.

3. Check that registration succeeded

Successful on-site registration shows You're going, with Cancel registration underneath. The organiser can see your profile name and email in the guest list.

If an error appears or the button stays unchanged, do not assume you are registered. Refresh the page and check the state. If the error continues, contact support with the event link and error text.

For external registration, follow that service's confirmation process. Registering elsewhere does not necessarily show “You're going” on DevKG.

4. Save the date and check how to attend

Calendar. If Add to calendar is available, choose Google Calendar or download an .ics file for Apple Calendar, Outlook or another calendar app. Finish adding it in your calendar. This does not register you for the event.

The saved calendar entry is a copy of the details at that moment. If the organiser changes the date or you cancel, update or delete it yourself. Check the event page again before attending, especially the time and time zone.

Reminder. Guests registered through the site can receive a reminder within the day before the start. Delivery depends on notification settings and available channels. If you sign up after the event's reminder has been sent, you may not receive another one. Save the date in your calendar too.

Online event. Read where the stream takes place. A supported YouTube link may appear as a video on the page. For another platform or a private meeting, follow the organiser's instructions. Ask them if the link is missing.

Changed your mind? Cancel registration

  1. Open the event on the site where you registered and sign in to the same account.
  2. Under You're going, select Cancel registration.
  3. Wait for the state to change. Your registration will be removed from the guest list.

A reminder already sent cannot be recalled. Delete your personal calendar entry separately. If registration is available again and the event has not ended, you can register again.

If cancellation is not shown, for example because the event has ended, contact the organiser or support. Cancel external registrations through the service you used. Cancelling a site registration does not process a ticket refund.

Why am I sent to another network site?

An event may appear on several sites, while on-site registrations are held at the original. A copy's button therefore takes you there. See Events on other sites.

Save the page where your registration was confirmed: it is the easiest place to check your place or cancel it.
