How to change the site language
On DevKG, you can choose any language the site supports. You do not need to sign in to switch languages.
The available languages are shown below. This is an information panel; the switching instructions follow it.
- Кыргызча
- Русский
- EnglishCurrent
If there is only one language, there is no language switcher. You cannot add another language through settings.
On a computer
- Look at the top right of the site for language names, such as “Кыргызча”, “Русский” and “English”.
- Select the name you want.
On a phone
- Tap the language button at the top of the site, such as RU, KY or EN.
- Choose a language from the list. A check mark shows the current one.
If you are signed in, you can also open Profile → Language and choose there.
You will usually stay on the same page, with menus and buttons in the selected language. The page address may change too; that is normal. If a particular item has no version in that language, it may be unavailable. Switch back to the previous language to read it.
What changes?
The switcher changes the interface language: menus, buttons, hints and section names. Help articles appear in that language when a translation has been published.
Job descriptions, events, articles and company descriptions are not automatically translated. They remain in the language used by their authors.
How the site remembers your choice
In this browser. Your choice is stored on this device. Clearing site data, using another browser or opening a private window may remove or bypass it.
In your account. When you are signed in, your chosen language is also saved for your account on this site and used on later sign-ins, including on other devices. If another device still shows a different language, select your preferred language again after signing in.
In new notifications. The site uses your saved account language when preparing new messages. Changing the language does not translate emails already received. See Notifications.
If you have not made a choice yet, the site uses the language of the link you opened or its default language. Your browser's language setting does not switch the site automatically.
Why did a link open in another language?
A friend may send you an English page after you previously chose Russian. The site may open that page in your saved language. To read it in another language, use the switcher rather than only editing the address.
Choosing a language in one browser does not instantly update a tab already open on another device.
Other sites in the network
Language is chosen separately on each site. You can read DevKG in one language and another site in a different one. The languages available may also differ. If you have not chosen a language on another site yet, it may use your account’s latest language when that language is supported.
If something does not work
| What happened | What to do |
|---|---|
| There is no switcher | Check the language panel above. A site with one language has nothing to switch to |
| Your language is missing | The site does not currently support it. Choose an available language |
| You cannot switch through your profile on a phone | Use the button at the top of the site; it does not require sign-in |
| Your choice was not remembered | Check for cleared site data or private browsing. Choose again; sign in first to save the choice to your account |
| A friend's link opens in your usual language | Your saved choice is being used. Change it with the switcher |
| A help article does not open after switching | Return to the previous language; its translation may not be published yet |
| Buttons changed but the job description did not | The switcher does not translate authors' texts |
For your personal area, see Profile and settings. If the switcher fails, contact support with the page link, your device and the language you selected.
