How to create and publish an event

To list an event on DevKG, open My events, click New event and complete four steps. If you only know the title, save a draft and return later.

An event page can introduce a meetup, conference, webinar or another gathering. Guests learn what will happen, where and when. You choose how they register.

What to prepare

  • The company organising the event. If it has no profile, create one.
  • A title, start date and time. For an event lasting several days, prepare the end date too.
  • A venue and street address for an offline event. You can add a stream link for an online meeting.
  • A description explaining the programme, intended audience and how to attend.
  • An optional cover: PNG, JPG or WebP up to 5 MB, at least 1200 × 675 pixels, with a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Sign in and open the event creation form. The step number at the top shows your progress.

  1. 1. What, where and when
  2. 2. Describe the event
  3. 3. Registration and contacts
  4. 4. Check and publish
The four steps of the event form, as on the site

Step 1. Set the basics

  1. Select the company organising the event.
  2. Enter a title of at least 3 characters, such as “Meetup for new software testers”.
  3. Choose Online or Offline: online guests join through a link; offline guests come to a venue.
  4. Set the start date and time. Enable Several days for a multi-day event and set an end later than the start.
  5. For an offline meeting, enter the venue, street address and city. Fill in the country if the field is shown and required. If an office selector is available, choose the company's office and check the filled-in address.
  6. Add a stream link if you have one. It is optional and can also be used to stream an offline event.

Click Next. If the form does not advance, read the message beside the highlighted field.

Step 2. Add a description and cover

The description needs at least 20 characters. A few clear paragraphs are more useful: explain who should attend, the topics and programme, and what to bring.

For example: “Learn how to prepare for your first software testing interview. Two short talks will be followed by questions. This meetup is for beginners; no laptop needed.”

Drag a cover into the upload area, choose a file or provide an image URL. The cover is optional.

Enable Accept speaker applications if you want people to propose talks. A speaker is someone who presents at the event.

If you already know the speakers, add them in the speaker section while creating the event. After saving, manage them separately. See Speakers and applications.

Click Next.

Step 3. Choose registration and admission price

  • On DevKGGuests register on the event pageFits almost always: the guest list builds itself.
  • On another siteGive the link to registrationWhen tickets are sold on another site.
  • No registrationOpen entry, nobody needs to sign upFor open meetups anyone can just walk into.
Three ways to register guests
OptionWhat happens
On DevKGGuests sign up on this site's event page.
On another siteGuests follow your link. Provide the full registration-page URL, including https://.
No registrationGuests do not need to sign up in advance. This does not necessarily mean free admission: set the price separately.

With registration on DevKG, sign-ups appear in the guest list. External registration and events without sign-up do not collect a list here. Registered guests receive a reminder before the event if their corresponding notifications are enabled.

Choose Free or Paid admission. For paid admission, enter the price and currency. Add useful contacts: a website, Telegram, WhatsApp, phone or email. Guests will see them on the event page.

Click Next.

Step 4. Review and submit

Check the title, date, time, address, description, registration and contacts. Click Edit beside a section to return to its step.

In the Order summary, check the publication price and selected extras. You can deselect optional services. Free admission does not mean free publication; check the order total.

  • If nothing is due, click Publish.
  • If payment is needed, click Pay and publish and follow the instructions. See How to pay for publication.

If a Spend points switch is available, enable it and check the revised total. The amount you can cover depends on the site's rules and your balance.

For companies: if your company already has a balance from a purchased bundle, you can enable Pay from balance in the order summary. Pay any remaining amount using a regular payment method. Buying a bundle is optional. See Publication bundles and company balance.

Have a promo code? First check where to use it in How to use a promo code. The publication form has no discount-code entry field.

If Also publish on appears, you can select other sites. Paid placements are added to the order. See Publishing an event on other sites.

Save a draft

Click Save draft. The only required detail is a title of at least 3 characters. If you have filled in other fields, correct any errors such as an invalid link or email.

Wait for the save confirmation. Your draft stays in My events as Not published, hidden from guests. Do not assume closing the tab saves the form.

What happens after submission

Paying and pressing the button do not necessarily make the page public immediately. Read the result and check its status in My events.

StatusWhat to do
Not publishedComplete the draft and submit it.
Awaiting paymentComplete payment to continue.
Under reviewWait for the site's review result.
PublishedThe page is available. Registration follows the method you chose.
RejectedRead the reason, correct the event and submit again.

For an event that has passed the payment stage and is under review, the form saves edits without selling the same services again. Still check the total before any new order.

Manage the event later

Open the event's menu in My events. Depending on its status and your permissions, you can edit it, create a copy or unpublish it.

A copy is a new event. Update its date and venue before publishing. Guests and purchased services are not transferred; the new publication is priced separately.

Unpublishing removes the page from the site. Whether it can be published again depends on its state and date. Check for Published status before telling guests it is available again.

For internal registration, use the guest list to check sign-ups and manage registration.

See Speakers and applications for managing talks.
